ceasefirenow camp, new years eve

A group of Sheffield residents from different backgrounds – Palestinian, British, secular as well as observant,  Jewish, Muslim and Christian – and will be setting up a #ceasefirenow camp at the top of Turner Hill in Meersbrook Park from 6pm on New Year’s Eve to half past midnight.

It is to remind everyone, on this new year, that, while we are wishing each other a happy, peaceful and healthy twelve months ahead, the people of Gaza are undergoing a genocide at the hands of the Israeli State; it is criminal to remain silent in the face of this.

Please pay a visit, bring candles of hope, a spirit of peace and a deep passion for justice for Palestinian people. There will be short (10-15 minute) mini-events on each hour between 6 and midnight.

We will start off with a quiet meditation and reflection and we will end with the power and passion of dabke dancing to launch our resistance to the genocide in the new year.

In between we will have Palestinian poems and singing. A full timetable will be available on our facebook and here on new years eve.

Please come and join in all or any of these events.

We are demanding:

  • an immediate ceasefire and an end to Israeli occupation
  • immediate permission for necessary aid at scale to avoid the starvation of people in Gaza
  • that Sheffield City Council declare Sheffield an Israeli Apartheid Free Zone until such time as the occupation of Palestine has ceased. Sign Israeli Apartheid Free Zone pledge here

Direct action for boycott

As the death toll in Gaza exceeded 19,000, Members of the Sheffield Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid visited Waitrose and Marks and Spencer on Saturday and removed stock from the shelves that had been grown on land stolen from Palestinians.

As it is near xmas and lots of people buy dates at this time, we chose to concentrate on date products in the shops. More information about boycotting Israeli Dates here. You have to be very careful. The label rarely says “Israel”.

Boycott action Saturday 16th December

Saturday 16th Sheffield Boycott Israel Action:

Assemble at 11.00 am outside the Israac Centre, 54 Cemetery Road, S11 8FP  (it’s between the Waitrose petrol station and the back of the Waitrose car park) for a mobile boycott action, walking around the town centre and ending in front of the Anglican Catherdal (arriving there at approximately 1.00pm with a very short rally).

Bring your Palestinian flags!

Israel both fears and hates the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement – because it’s global, grassroots and effective.

Our boycott event emphasises the power we all have in our everyday lives to reject Israel, its war crimes and land theft by the simple act of boycotting all Israeli products.

Nov 26th fundraiser – huge thanks

On Sunday we had the most special night raising nearly £5000 for emergency relief in Gaza.

Wonderful solidarity singing followed by fabulous food – some cooked by the amazing Sahar and some donated by generous business people around Sheffield and Rotherham ( see below)

We also showed a moving tribute to the samud of Gaza’s fishing community who in spite of the threat from Israeli gunboats would go out every day to fish. Thy have of course now lost all their boats and fishing equipment after the bombing of Gaza port.

The money raised means nearly 12000 people can be given meals.

Contributors from Sheffield and Rotherham

Many thanks to all these people without whose help this would not have been possible

UN Day of solidarity with Palestine fundraiser, Nov 26th

UN International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People is Nov 29th. How they need that now!

Join us for an evening where we come together for a fundraiser evening and to show the strength and depth of Sheffield and Rotherham solidarity for Palestine and celebrate the resilience of Palestinian people.

Prices of food in Gaza are now extremely high. The work Musheir El Farra, chair of Sheffield PSC, managed to do on the ground while he was trapped in Gaza, has enabled volunteers to access supplies and so far 1831 families have had parcels of food or blankets or clothes.

Every £400 pounds raised will feed 1000 people with rice and lentils.

Please come together in solidarity and join us on the Sunday before, Nov 26th, for this fundraiser for Gaza emergency relief: wonderful food, music, speakers and film, from 6pm.

You will also be able to hear from Musheir El-Farra about the situation on the ground in Gaza and see his film about the Gazan fishermen.

Please share this leaflet.
