The Home Affairs Committee has just produced a report into Anti-Semitism<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span> There is a huge amount of confusion about the subject.\u00a0 This report does not help.\u00a0 National PSC has given a reply here<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

I want to take up just one point.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under\u00a0conclusions and recommendations (page 50) there is this sentence\u00a0 <\/span>\u2018The word Zionist or worse Zio as a term of abuse however has no place in civilised society.\u2019\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

The practice of \u00a0Zionism as implemented by successive Israeli Governments includes the following<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Ethnic cleansing of about 700,000 Palestinians in 1948.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Systematic land theft in Jerusalem and the West Bank since 1967.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Theft of water from Palestinian lands.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>A systematic illegal house building program for Israelis on stolen land.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The blockade of Gaza, the destruction of its economy and periodic devastating attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n

6.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>A systematic system of barriers in the West Bank that make travel for Palestinians very difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n

7.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The establishment of an Apartheid regime in the area that Israel controls.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me expand on the last one.\u00a0 There are roads that Palestinians are not allowed to drive on.\u00a0 There are areas that Palestinians are not allowed to live.\u00a0 There is a separate system of law for Palestinians. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Three fourteen year olds who came to dance in Sheffield have been arrested<\/a>.\u00a0 We think it is for throwing stones.\u00a0 They will be charged in a military court.\u00a0 In the unlikely event that an Israeli was charged for the same act, (s)he would be tried in a civilian court.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0There is a set of clauses from the UN that define what is Apartheid.\u00a0<\/a><\/span>\u00a0 The clauses of freedom of movement alone shows Israel is imposing an Apartheid state.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Desmond Tutu said<\/a> \u201cI am especially urging the Assembly to adopt the overture naming Israel as an apartheid state through its domestic policies and maintenance of the occupation [of Palestinian lands]\u2026.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cIn the situation that exists today, until a Palestinian state is created, we are actually one state. This joint state \u2014 in the hope that the status quo is temporary \u2014 is an apartheid state,\u201d Alon Liel Ex Israeli Ambassador to South Africa<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n

We in the Palestine Solidarity Campaign oppose all racism.\u00a0 The claim of the Israeli Government that it represents all Jews, and that it acts in the interests of all Jews is manifestly untrue, deeply offensive and breeds anti-Semitism. \u00a0Jews are not responsible for Apartheid Israel. \u00a0Probably the most important figure in the establishment of Israel was the Anti-Semitic<\/a> Balfour. \u00a0He introduced the Aliens Act of 1905<\/a> to prevent Jewish refugees from coming to Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n

I regard the practice of Zionism in creating Israeli Apartheid deeply offensive.\u00a0 How do I use the word in a non abusive way?<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tory Party supported South African Apartheid till very late.<\/span><\/p>\n

It would be very nice if it did not wait as long to oppose Israeli Apartheid.<\/span><\/p>\n
