Engelbert Humperdinck Protest
ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK - DON’T PLAY TEL AVIV!!
Engelbert Humperdinck is currently on a world tour that includes City Hall Sheffield, on November 5, and Tel Aviv on December 1st.
Engelbert has a full tour planned before Tel Aviv which includes 16 gigs in the UK & Ireland. There are already protests planned in in Bristol, London and Dublin.
If you would like to join our protest in Sheffield please contact the boycott group or join us on the steps of the City Hall at 6.30pm on Saturday 5th November.
Strangely, Tel Aviv isn't listed on Englebert’s website but they have already been selling tickets for his concert at the Nokia Hall, Tel Aviv, for 1 Dec.

Engelbert has been known to actively oppose racism. (Quote from:
"Immigration and Conflict in Europe" By Rafaela M. Dancygier (Page 210)
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=vTRzzVMzhScC&pg=PA210) Maybe we can find a way to get him to see that playing Tel Aviv is in fact an act of support for the Aparthied Israeli state.
See the announcement in the Israeli press at: http://refrainplayingisrael.posterous.com/engelbert-humperdinck-please-dont-play-for-ap
We leafleted the concert on Saturday. The leaflet pointed out Englebert's honourable history of anti racism especially against South African Apartheid. It pointed out that his visit to Apartheid Israel was a clear break with that history and asked him to think again.
There was only one man who was furious that we "were bringing politics into pop music". He is sadly ignorant of the history of pop music and that of Englebert himself. Every one else was friendly.
