Scholarship Fund 24hr Team for Small Park BIG RUN 2020

Small Park BIG RUN 2020 is virtual this year but that hasn’t stopped our amazing supporters planning events every hour of the 24hr event. On this page we celebrate all the supporters who are raising funds for the Scholarship Fund and for the Khuza’a Healing Centre.

12pm to 1pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Aphra and Jonny are running a gym circuit in their garden for each of the 194 Palestinian children detained in Israeli prisons. Well done on completing your first lot!

1pm to 2pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Lastina, Priscilla and Catherine ran round Manor Park, Sheffield. Thank you

2pm to 3pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Flis embroiders for Palestine for the scholarship fund students and for the Khuza’a Healing Centre.

3pm to 4pm Saturday 20th June 2020: The start of an epic cream tea service in Bev’s garden until 6.30pm tonight. That’s a lot of cake and cream but all in a good cause.

4pm to 5pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Garden Olympics for the Morgan/Shaw/Rattenbury family. It looks such good fun and lovely weather. Thank you so much.

5pm to 6pm Saturday 20th June 2020: A marathon cake sale is going well – thanks Anne and hope you managed to sample one of your cakes as well as selling them.

Catherine has been cycling round Broomhead Reservoir – one of her many activities over the 24hrs. Thank you

6pm to 7pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Our 7th hour was in Meersbrook Park where Small Park Big Run usually takes place. Caroline walked around the park and raised the Palestinian flag. It is a lovely evening, a chance to reflect on how we can move around our city but Palestinians are often restricted.

7pm to 8pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Write to Move online writing workshop exploring what freedom means. Look out for the poems and prose from the workshop on this page and Small Park Big Run website.

8pm to 9pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Aphra and Jonny complete their 9 hours of circuits for the 194 Palestinian child prisoners. You must both be worn out – huge thanks from the Scholarship Fund.

9pm to 10pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Hilary walks round her roof garden and reads a Palestinian poem (video to follow!)

10pm to 11pm Saturday 20th June 2020: Supporters of the Scholarship Fund are walking across Sheffield from Manor Park to Meersbrook Park to Endcliffe Park. This hour, Claudia is walking in Ecclesfield – thank you.

Claudia tells us: After taking a photo in my backyard I set off at 10 in the evening to walk from Ecclesfield to Chapeltown and back .It was 4 miles altogether and it took me 1.5 hours. A beautiful evening, with a purple sunset

11pm to 12pm Saturday 20th June 2020: the twelth hour – we are half way there! The Scholarship Fund 24hr team is going strong. We turn again to writing in the bewitching hour as Claudia writes about the right to move and what freedom means here, now.
On my walk, and later at home, my thoughts were with the people of Palestine. I do not have the words to put down my feelings and thoughts about their plight. My heart goes out to them.

12pm to 1am Sunday 21st June 2020: the first hour of Sunday for the 24hr Team. Sara is walking round Meersbrook Park and at the top will perform star jumps for our star students in the Scholarship Fund.

1am to 2am Sunday 21st June 2020: Our 24hr Scholarship Fund Team moves to Canada. Jane, Simon and Josh are walking in Vancouver for our scholarship students. Thanks being shouted over to you.

2am to 3am Sunday 21st June 2020: Our Canadian team members are still walking as they head towards evening in this our 15th hour of Small Park BIG RUN

3am to 4am Sunday 21st June 2020: Catherine has run, walked and cycled for the 24hr Team and now in the early hours she is skipping. It was going to be in the garden but with heavy rain Catherine skipped in her kitchen. Thank you, you’re amazing.

4am to 5am Sunday 21st June 2020: Our dawn cycle ride team set out for Meersbrook Park. Debby, Caroline and Catherine using pedal power to send a message of solidarity to Palestine. Sorry it was so wet but lovely to see the dawn at 4.38am

5am to 6am Sunday 21st June 2020: The cyclists continue with Debby cycling back across the Walkley and Catherine cycling to Pitsmoor. Caroline continued with her small park BIG RUN challenge to run, walk, cycle or swim 70k of each of her years of freedom. Thank you.

6am to 7am Sunday 21st June 2020: in the 19th hour of Small Park BIG RUN, Angela enjoys the beauty of local parkland and supports Palestinians freedom to sit amongst trees. Resting on her walk in Parkwood Springs.

7am to 8am Sunday 21st June 2020: Val walks with Angela in Parkwood Springs. Val celebrates the freedom to explore our green spaces whilst many Palestinians face restrictions that make lockdown look easy.

8am to 9am Sunday 21st June 2020: Our 21st hour and Julia talks a local walk to enjoy the freedom and beauty around us. A local path sign states, ‘do not block access’ and Julia places the Palestinian flag next to it. A poignant message. Thank you

9am to 10am Sunday 21st June 2020: for our 22nd hour Pam cycles up the Porter Valley, marking the uphill struggle facing so many Palestinians yet like Pam determination wins through. Thank you Pam

10am to 11am Sunday 21st June: we have nearly finished the 24hrs and what a way to end. Trisha has walked 61kms around her neighbourhood in June. 1km for each of our 61 scholarship fund students. Amazing achievement. She is joined on her last km by Jon.

11am to 12pm Sunday 21st June 2020: The final of 24hrs and Ragel, Leni and Catherine walk up Wincobank in the sunshine. Waving Palestinian flags and marking an amazing end to Small Park BIG RUN 2020. Thank you everyone.
